I want to take you back to 1966. I was eighteen that year and a senior in high school. It was my sophomore year in high school that John F. Kennedy was assassinated. But that was a different high school as we had moved to a new place which brought me to a new school and new friends. It had been the year before that I had left the Catholic Church as two years before that I had taken it upon myself to begin a bible study completely on my own. Reading scripture had pointed out to me that the Catholic Church was not following the gospels. Was going political instead of stating that all the world was in God’s hands and men were expected to not kill. Vietnam was reaching a crescendo at that time.
I was facing duplicitous times in this country and duplicitous times in my faith. No church should take on mankind’s politics and if they do that church is then a heretic. This is what I learned reading scripture. Jesus was not about politics. He was about our eternal lives and spent time telling us all how to act to achieve our eternal lives.
What has changed now are that the teachings of Jesus have been thrown out of the conversation as this world moved toward unwarranted secularism. In essence, God, Christ, the bible were thrown out the window. We went the opposite direction. It was then that the book of Revelations made more sense to me. Satan did indeed have his mark on this world of ours. That is a lot to take in isn’t it? Even a thought that Satan is real is a hard pill to swallow. Well, how else do you account for this turning away from God toward more worldly living? Bright lights, worshiping the devil in popular culture through materialistic goals, and not setting one’s mind on the eternal through God. This is the way it was prophesied and to watch it with knowledge of the scripture was shocking to me.
Politics has always been a necessary evil. From time to time politics shines in the winning of war or your candidate being elected to serve in government. A flawed government at best no matter which party is in office. A government flawed because mankind is flawed. The best we can do for one another is to recognize this fact and do our best to stop our differences by not amplifying them. Tell that to the press, a political party, or one another when you differ as to the political world.
We are at the crux of what the world can do without self-destruction, self-immolation. Time is not on the side of the secular now. Instead, prophecy is working just as God said it would all those thousands of years ago, to the letter. This is the difference that so many have chosen to disregard. This is the difference for human beings between winking out or achieving eternity with God. It should not be a difficult choice for us to make, which side we are on. Shut out the cacophony and listen to your conscience. That is how God guides you in silence.
